Studied Veterinary Medicine at Utrecht University (the Netherlands) and after specialization he started his clinic for Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Surgery for high-profile sport horses.
After more than 30 years in practice he returned to academia in 2004, working at universities in the Netherlands and abroad, focussing on Comparative Research of Tendinopathy in man and horse.
He invented Ultrasound Tissue Characterization (UTC) and wrote a PhD-thesis about UTC of tendons, awarded with highest distinction Cum Laude.
As spin-off of his research he co-founded UTC Imaging company in 2009 and became scientific director.
Current spearheads of his research are, besides UTC, also load-effects and regenerative therapy of tendons in both human and equine athletes. He leads international academic cooperations and supervises management of tendinopathy at several centers of excellence like professional sports clubs.
